Description
The historic Victorian docks in Gloucester are a unique and inspiring destination, described by Charles Dickens himself as ‘extraordinary’, and granted port status by Queen Elizabeth I in 1580, Gloucester is the most inland port in Britain, and the docks are dominated by towering Victorian warehouses which stand proud along the water’s edge. The former dock estate provides a remarkably complete example of a Victorian port. Views include many fine late Victorian era warehouses, 2 working dry docks, a Mariners Chapel and other dock-related buildings that have been found new uses.
